Our Story
A lasting connection
With a rich food, wine and cultural history dating back to 1842, the Barossa Valley is one of the most historic wine-producing regions in Australia.
There are now seven, and some eighth generation grape growing families in the Barossa Valley, who are the custodians of Australia’s (and arguably the world’s) largest collection of old vines.
Benbullen Retreat is nestled in the centre of this beautiful region, set amongst the vines and valley. Once home to goldfields, the property now encompasses a beautiful homestead, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature. Benbullen Retreat is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the landscape and all it has to offer.
Benbullen Homestead

Our first dip in the water was the 19th century bluestone homestead at Benbullen Retreat, which was love at first sight and we still can’t go past its truly spectacular view of the valley.
The popularity of the homestead saw us grow our offering to include Benbullen Pavilions on the same property to accommodate more guests to also enjoy this heavenly slice of the Barossa.
Benbullen Pavilions

With 10 acres of stunning natural landscape at Benbullen Retreat, the Pavilions provide a contemporary accommodation offering.
Completed in 2023, the Pavilions were architecturally designed by JBG Architects and positioned and designed to soak up the breathtaking and uninterrupted vistas of the Barossa Valley.
The attention to detail in the construction by local business, Underwood Building, means the two modern pavilions are not only luxurious but inviting and comfortable. The materials used were carefully selected to complement the setting and history of this unique property.
Gawler Park Estate

Rich in history dating back to some of the Barossa’s earliest settlers, Gawler Park Estate was purchased in the 1842 for fruit growing by a name synonymous with the Barossa, George Fife Angas.
Believed to be home to one of Angaston’s very first wineries, Gawler Park Wines was established in 1864 by Thomas Radford Sage when he purchased the property. Gawler Park Wines produced several spirits and wines which were made from grapes grown on the property.
Today, Gawler Park Estate still boasts the remnants of the old winery buildings of the heritage-listed winery. Barossa Grand Retreats has meticulously renovated the stunning Homestead so that the essence of grandeur continues carefully blending of old-world charm steeped in modern luxury – a true jewel of the Barossa.
